Paris Golf & Country Club is an 18 hole championship golf course situated on 130 acres of rolling hills. The outstanding course conditions and the traditional layout make Paris Golf & Country Club one of the Elite courses in Northeast Texas, and perfect for golfers of all skill levels.
Dating all the way back to 1916, the Paris Golf and Country Club is one of the oldest courses in the state. On May 11, 1916, just weeks after the Great Fire of Paris destroyed the heart of the city, a group of influential businessmen formed the Paris Golf Club.
The original directors included men whose names are well-known to local historians — J.J. Culbertson, Ed Hutson, R.W. Wortham, W.G. Moore, S.W. Wilbor, J.W. Wade, H.P. Mayer, J.H. Noyes and B.F. Theilen.
The first official function of the club was a Fourth of July picnic at the club, held even before the nine-hole course and the club house were completed in 1917.
The course was laid out by H.H. McClannahan. The original greens were made of sand but, by 1924, had been switched to grass.
The first pro, hired in 1918, was Jack Street, followed by Bill Strawn, Gayther Nowell, Frank Lewis, George Scott, Benny Adams, Floyd Lavender and, in 1947, Jimmy Adams.
In 1974, the club moved into its new building, designed by B.P. Denney and built by Harrison & Walker Construction. It featured a large dining area, a modern kitchen, private dining rooms, a large grill and separate lounges, locker rooms and showers for men and women and the old club house was demolished.
In 1977, the existing pool was replaced and an additional nine holes were added to the course. The next year, lighted tennis courts were added. Then in 1986, a reservoir was constructed for use as a watering system for the fairways.
